Unfortunately we have still been experiencing rather a lot of precipitation (rain), especially considering Cambridge is one of the UK's driest cities! We have successfully completed our first week with an extra addition arriving on Sunday afternoon.

Last weeks activities:
Wednesday - Basketball
Staff and students went over to a local sports hall where they enjoyed almost two hours of activity and of course the students were loads better than the staff!!
Thursday - Quiz
How much to you know about all things British? We tested the students with several different quizes, some of which were different sounds! The highest scoring team only dropped a few points- we will have to make it more challenging next time, all our students know too much!
Friday - Movie Night
Students had a choice of three movies and ended up watching "The Sitter" in one of the common rooms in the residences, it was so popular that I don't think you could have squeezed in an extra person if you'd tried!
On Friday, we crowned our first 'Student of the Week', Erica. She was awarded a Studio Teddy in her lesson.

Saturday -Excursion to London and Bag design
Everyone had to be up early for the Sir John School's first excursion of the summer which was to London. After arriving in town, we made the short walk to Covent Garden where students had a few hours of free time. From there we went to a very busy Trafalgar Square where there was a big event going on which meant that we lost a little time, however all students got to experience how mulicultural and cosmopolitan a city London is! Students saw Admiralty Arch, Nelson's Column and due to the crowds either Buckingham Palace or the National Gallery. Walking south, we went past Horse Guard's Parade, Downing Street and the Cenotaph War Memorial. Upon reaching Parliament Square, students had the chance to see Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. On the way back we drove past Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, The London Eye and thanks to one of the coach drivers having the idea, the Olympic Park!

After dinner at the Main School, students had the opportunity to take part in the bag making activity that had been organised. They first designed their bag on paper and then transferred the design using fabric pens, feathers and material. As you can see, many took inspiration from the excursion that day and even the staff got involved!
Sunday - Wimbledon tennis final, Movie
We had a quiet Sunday with only one arrival and no departures. Students enjoyed free time which saw many of them head off to explore the city. Some watched the Wimbledon Tennis Final in the residence whilst others opted for a movie.
Monday - Swimming and Park Sports
Yesterday night luckily was dry and so many students went to the park where they played Ulitmate Frisbee and Football. All returned back looking very tired but everyone was smiling so much fun was had by all! Others opted to go swimming in one of the local pools.
